Staff Report / ATLlocal.org
On Thursday, October 10, at 11:00 AM, the 2024 Dr. Brenda Watts-Jones Lecture Series took place at the Cleveland Dennard Conference Ballroom. The guest speaker, Captain Jacqueline Miller, MD, FACS, who is the Medical Director of the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, delivered a presentation focused on cancer education, social barriers, and treatment options.
During her talk, Dr. Miller underscored the importance of early cancer detection, referencing the Cervical Cancer Mortality Act of 1990, which provides free screening services. The lecture created a heartfelt atmosphere as special recognition was given to Cancer Warriors and Survivors in attendance.
For those interested in learning about screening programs for breast and cervical cancer, information is available at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.
